VOLUNTEER
The Museum of East Dorset wouldn’t be what it is today without the incredible contribution of our volunteers, who give thousands of hours of their time each year. The museum’s volunteer scheme is open to all.
Whether they’re beavering away behind the scenes to maintain the collections, the garden and book shop, greeting you with a smiling face when you arrive, answering your questions, or brewing you a drink in the Tea Room – our volunteers proudly support every element of the organisation.
With boundless energy and enthusiasm, volunteers of all ages and abilities provide invaluable assistance, enabling us to continue our work.
Volunteer roles
There are plenty of opportunities available for anyone wishing to volunteer at the Museum of East Dorset:
Front of House
If you like meeting and interacting with the public, there are many Front of House roles open to you, including the Information Centre and Tea Room. The museum is open six days a week and there are occasional evening and weekend events where we are looking for support.
Learning Service
Volunteers supporting the learning activities at the museum work with our Learning Officer.
At the Museum of East Dorset, we are proud of our varied and engaging learning programmes available for students and pupils of all ages. Activities on offer range from face to face workshops to filming for virtual content.
Garden
Are you green fingered? Our beautiful walled garden, adorned by traditional fruit trees, a medlar and a black mulberry to name but a few, is the perfect place to put on your gardening gloves and get involved. The care and maintenance of the garden is a direct result of the dedication of our gardening team.
Training
Recognising the amazing work of our volunteers
Last year, two of our longstanding volunteers received a well-deserved accolade at the Dorset Museums Association AGM, held at Poole Museum. Brian and Sally both received a Volunteer of the Year Award for all their hard work and dedication – their contributions are much appreciated and this award was well deserved.
