In this friendly, relaxed workshop you will learn about the various mosaic materials and techniques of cutting and laying tesserae.  You will make a 20cmsq panel on board with a choice of vitreous glass and matt porcelain mosaic tile, using tile cutters in a safe and productive way..

You may bring a simple design which Joanna will help you adapt for mosaic, use our stunning garden as inspiration, or use one of Joanna’s many tried and tested template design.  Grouting will be demonstrated but you will need to complete this at home – grout and full instructions included. The completed mosaic will be water and heat proof on the mosaic surface.

During the day be sure to take time to see the shelter at the bottom of the museum garden. The floor is made from tesserae that was excavated from the site of a Roman Villa in Tarrant Hinton. The roof tiles are from the same villa.

The Museum Tearoom will be open from 10am-4pm to purchase refreshments and light lunches.

Please bring a pencil, ruler and rubber if you can, although there will be some to loan on the day.

Joanna is a Wiltshire based mosaic artist with a BA in Fine Art from Winchester School of Art and has been making mosaics since 1988. visit Dewfallmosaic.co.uk to see examples of her work
