Museum of East Dorset unveils new exhibition “I Grew Up 90s”

The Nineties have been described as the decade where ‘history took a holiday’. In 1991 the Cold War was over, the Gulf War concluded, and the War on Terror a decade away. What followed were ten years of relative peace, prosperity, and progress for our planet. It was a time when toddlers were raised on Teletubbies and children caught their first Pokémon; when Harry Potter and Horrible Histories kept kids reading; when The Simpsons and South Park made cartoons cool; and Ab Fab and Friends kept their parents laughing.
The ‘I Grew Up 90s’ exhibition explores and examines the decade through the lens of youth, featuring a selection of collector Matt Fox’s 200 objects and artworks that bring the decade back to life. The 90s was the era of Britpop, Cool Britannia, the Spice Girls, Lara Croft, Power Rangers, Pokémon, Trainspotting and Teletubbies. Come and experience the fashion, toys and of course the music that shaped the decade. Don’t miss the opportunity to play some classic video games on our arcade machine, including Tetris, Tekken, Street Fighter and Sonic the Hedgehog.
Journey back to a time when there were no smartphones, reality TV or social media to distract us, and relive the decade when a whole generation Grew Up 90’s.
