‘Hands On History’ Loan Boxes

We have an inspirational collection of loan boxes which schools and other learning facilitators can borrow to use in the classroom to support delivery of the national curriculum in an exciting and hands-on-way. These aim to compliment the sessions we run on site, but also help you deliver lessons prior or post visits.

Object handling allows pupils to use all their senses, such as touch, sight and smell, often leading to a more memorable experience.

The boxes are available to borrow on a weekly or half-termly basis at the cost of £20 a week. They will need to be collected and returned during museum opening times: 10am-4pm Monday-Saturday.

Each box is themed according to the contents. The loan boxes we have available are:

– Toys: Past and Present

– Victorians: Domestic Life

– The Romans

– Stone Age to Iron Age

– Communication Through the Ages

– WW1: Children and the War Effort

– WW2: The Home Front

– Local History: The Bankes Archive

– 1930’s Britain

If you would like to book out a ‘Hands On History’ loan box, please email our Learning and Community Engagement Officer on: [email protected]

If you have any areas or topics you would specifically like us to cover, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will endeavour to help you.
