Drivers’ Information
The closest parking to our museum is the Crown Mead car park. This is a pay and display, short stay car park.
The next closest option is the King Street car park. Again, this is a pay and display, short stay car park.
Both of these options are not much more than a short walk away from the High Street, where we are located.
The Crown Mead car park is located just beside the Wimborne Co-op. After driving through Rowland’s Hill, you need to go straight on at the roundabout at the end of this road. You will see two roundabouts on Hanham Road (B3073). The first one, you will need to go straight over towards the second roundabout. At the second roundabout, you will need to turn left at the roundabout towards the Co-op. You should see a sign that says short stay parking at the roundabout. This is the sign for the Crown Mead car park. There is another small car park to the right upon entry called the Hanham Road car park. This is also short stay and pay and display, and is the same distance to the museum. Use this car park if Crown Mead is full.
To get to the Museum from the Crown Mead car park you will need to walk past the Co-op. There is a path along side the Co-op that borders the river- once at the end of this walkway you will need to turn right and go over the bridge. You will see the Wimborne Library on the right- if you wish to visit our tearoom, it is located just after the library. To enter through the museum, you will need to continue straight on, past the tearoom- here you will see the footpath now joins onto a road. At this point, continue straight and do not turn to the left. Follow the footpath and you will see it turns right- follow it round the corner and you will see the museum sign within 20 ft.
The King Street car park is located behind the Wimborne Minster. The entrance to the car park is located across from the Wimborne Model Town on King St (B3073). You will need to turn right to enter the car park.
To get to King St you may have to go through the High Street, depending on your route. If so, there is a one way road throughout the square. Follow along this road and when you reach the Square, continue over to the left and follow the road around. At the end of the road at the junction, you should turn right and follow the B3073 straight on and you will eventually see the parking on your right.
To get to the museum from the King St car park, you will have to exit the car park- this will take you out behind the Minster. Follow the path, and you will see the Minster Green and the High Street across the street. You will need to walk past the green and cross the road, then you will see the museum to the left, within 20 ft.
Public Transport Information:
There are multiple bus services that run into Wimborne:
- 3 – Poole to Wimborne via Oakdale, Fleetsbridge, Creekmoor, Waterloo, Broadstone, Highfield Estate, Corfe Mullen.
- 3x – Poole to Wimborne via Wessex Gate, Darbys Corner, Broadstone, Highfield Estate, Corfe Mullen.
- 4 – Poole to Wimborne via Oakdale, Fleetsbridge, Creekmoor, Waterloo, Broadstone, Merley.
- 6 – Bournemouth to Wimborne via Winton, University, Wallisdown, Bearwood, Merley.
- 13 – Bournemouth to Wimborne via Winton, Northbourne, West Parley, Ferndown, Stapehill, Leigh Road.
- 13a – Bournemouth to Wimborne via Winton, Northbourne, West Parley, Ferndown, Stapehill, Colehill.
All of these services have a final stop in or right next to Wimborne Square. The Museum is located on the High Street, which is less than a 5 minute walk from any of the three bus stops at which these services will terminate.
- Services that stop at Stop A: 3, 3x, 4
- Services that stop at Stop B: 6, 13, 13a
- Services that stop at Stop C: As of June 2026, the only service that uses this stop is the infrequent local service 88 from Colehill and Sturminster Marshall.
From Stop A: West Borough, Wimborne, once having disembarked, you will see to your left and straight down the street is a traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing- it is just across from a Nationwide branch. Please use this pedestrian crossing and continue left, past the Nationwide. Once at the end of this footpath, if you look to your right and continue down the street, in around 200ft you will see us, the Museum of East Dorset.
From Stop B: The Square, Wimborne, you will disembark just across from the Nationwide branch. To your left and straight down you will see a pedestrian crossing, indicated by yellow tactile paving. To get to the museum, use this crossing and turn right once on the other side of the street. In around 200ft you will see the Museum of East Dorset.
Cyclists’ Information
If you are cycling into Wimborne in order to come visit us:
There are assigned cycle parking spaces in Wimborne Square. In the map below, these spaces are indicated by green dots. There are a total of 12 spaces in the square, which you will see is a less than 5 minute walk away from our museum.

Pedestrians’ Information
There are two entrances for you to use during your visit.
The Front Entrance: This is the entrance to the gift shop and where you pay for entry. This entrance is located on the High Street, between Clarks shoe shop and Saville Travel.
The Tearoom: This is the entrance for the tearoom and the garden. It is free entry and you do not have to come through the museum or have paid for a ticket to come to the tearoom. This entrance is located next to the Wimborne Library. There is an accessible entrance to the right of the main door to the tearoom.
In this map, you can see we are located on the High Street- this is very close to both Wimborne Square and Wimborne Minster, which is just across the road from our main entrance. You can also see other establishments in this map that may help you find us better and get your bearings around Wimborne.

On the map above, the closest pedestrian crossings are indicated with a pedestrian sign and the direction in which the crossings go. The High Street and the Square can have a lot of traffic that uses a one-way system, so please do utilise the indicated crossings for both your safety and efficiency.
Please be aware that the footpaths in Wimborne can, in some places, be unevenly paved, bumpy, and quite narrow. The High Street and the Square can also get very busy during the day, especially on weekends, and are normally crowded with tables and chairs of various restaurants around the town. If you have any disabilities that may affect you as a pedestrian, please be sure to keep this in mind.
