- Circumstances of death: War Diary (Ancestry) On 26 Sep 1916 5th Battalion Dorset Regiment moved up to the Ovillers Trench. They suffered heavily from the enemy barrage of bombs, machine guns and snipers from the German still in Mouquet Farm. The casualties amongst NCOs was heavy. This is probably where Lionel Thorne died.
