The Museum of East Dorset provides active, hands-on sessions that support the Foundation Curriculum and Early Years topics. All the themes that we cover are connected to the building and collections.
Dependent on class size, groups will rotate around three or four different activities which last approximately 20-30 minutes each. Some sessions will be led by our learning assistants, although some trail and craft activities will be self-directed. For these activities, full instructions and materials are provided.
If you have a theme or topic you would like us to support, please contact the Learning Officer, on 01202 882533 or email us at [email protected].
Topics
Our learning team can create tailor made sessions for your group using the museum building, garden, and collections. If you have a particular topic in mind, please let us know and we may be able to offer you bespoke activities.
Here are just a few examples of what we can offer:
- The Gingerbread Man
- A Victorian Christmas
- The Hungry Caterpillar
- Toys: Old and New
Costs
Our early years programme starts at just £6 per child. Accompanying adults are free. Some sessions will incur an extra £25 charge for materials or ingredients and these will be discussed at the time of booking. There is a minimum group charge of £100 for learning sessions.
Loans Boxes
The Museum of East Dorset offers loan boxes that can be used to support teaching within the classroom – either as a standalone resource or to complement learning from our workshop sessions.
The boxes can be loaned for usually a minimum period of two weeks.
A payment of £20 per loan box, per week is requested. They can be collected during museum opening times.
